Chestertown's 2010 Art in the Park will feature the work of over 45 artists and crafters on September 11, 2010, from 9:00 to 4:30 at Fountain Park in downtown Chestertown. Sponsored by the Chestertown Arts League each year, Art in the Park attracts talented, regional artists who create quality, affordable works that vary in technique, media and style. This event is always a perfect time to start (or finish) your holiday shopping with unique gifts of art for the home or office. Returning this year by popular demand are guitarists, Ben Bennington and Ford Schuman and bassist Debby Campbell who livened up the park last year with standards and oldies.
Each year one of the Chestertown Arts League artists donates an original oil painting to be raffled off in the afternoon of Art in the Park. This year’s artist, Marj Morani has donated a 16 x 20” oil on canvas, “September,” (featured in the header at the far right) which is a characteristic Morani landscape with its joyful impasto, warm palette, and sense of place. Water, marsh grass, trees, and sky reveal an astonishing color spectrum which draws one toward a hidden passage in the tide line. “September,” will soon appear in the window of The Finishing Touch to begin the countdown to the raffle at Art in the Park, set for Saturday, September 11. Marj, plein air painter and life drawing regular, is one of CAL’s most prolific and popular artists. Her works sell regularly and more than once have won the People’s Choice award at gallery openings.
Among our talented artists participating this year are nationally renown wildlife artists, Raymond Bell and Kurt Plinke as well as Chestertown Arts League artists Anne Klinefelter, Holly Geddes, Angela Ranzoni, Nancy O'Brien, Patty Mowell, Ann LaClair, Rich Hall, Mary O'Bara, and Steve Hamilton. You can view all of our artists and crafters on the Our Artists page along with selected samples of their work.
Our Media Packet has camera-ready public relations materials for the press and interested participants.
Thanks to all the artists and visitors who helped to make last year's Art in the Park an enjoyable and special festival. Art in the Park 2009 was a success despite the pouring rain the day before and a questionable forecast for Saturday. However, the weather did not The enthusiastic support of our artists and vistors motivates us to continue to offer a unique exhibition space for artists and crafters. We look forward to sharing the first weekend after Labor Day with you for years to come, and we hope to offer more selections of fine art and quality crafts each year.
Thanks also to the many Arts League Volunteers who helped to make this event happen each year.
A special thanks to artists Brenda Stewart, Steve Hamilton, Evie Baskin and Marj Morani whose art is featured in the header on this page from left to right, respectively.
